Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB), Sri Lanka's leading private sector bank, proudly announces its role as the official banking partner of the 91st Battle of the Saints annual cricket encounter between St. Joseph's College and St. Peter's College. The highly anticipated match will take place on April 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2025, at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), continuing the legacy of one of the country's most celebrated school cricketing rivalries.

The Battle of the Saints, first played in 1933, is among Sri Lanka's most prestigious school cricket encounters. The tournament is played for the Reverend Father Maurice Legoc Trophy, named after its founder, and has seen decades of competitive yet friendly matches that uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

HNB’s partnership with the event highlights its deep-rooted commitment to Sri Lanka’s school sports and youth development. Over the years, the Bank has actively supported various educational and sporting initiatives, including HNB's Student Savings Units, which have been instrumental in promoting financial literacy among school children. HNB has also introduced SmartPay digital banking solutions for schools, ensuring seamless fee payments and transactions for students, parents, and educational institutions.

“As a trusted partner in Sri Lanka’s education and sports sectors, HNB is proud to be the official banking partner of the 91st Battle of the Saints, a tradition that celebrates discipline, teamwork, and excellence. We believe that school sports play a crucial role in shaping the leaders of tomorrow, and we remain committed to initiatives that foster talent, unity, and financial empowerment among young Sri Lankans,” said HNB Chief Operating Officer, Sanjay Wijemanne.

The 91st Battle of the Saints is expected to be yet another thrilling chapter in the history of Sri Lankan school cricket. As generations of Josephians and Peterites unite to celebrate this prestigious encounter, HNB is honoured to support the event, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for youth empowerment and sporting excellence.
